Update – New photos of Rachel and Paul’s Wedding – visit the website from Sedona Bride at http://www.sedonabride.com/rachel-paul/.

Sunday, June 19, 2011.  Rachel and Paul really know how to throw a party! They wanted to make their wedding a very special event for all of their dear family members and wonderful friends.  Choosing Sedona for their destination wedding, Rachel and Paul made all their wedding arrangements from their home in Chicago for their dream Sedona wedding.

Wedding guests arrived into town from a variety of destinations to join in the special event. On Thursday night, Paul’s father Marty and his wife Kappy hosted an informal pizza party at their Sedona home. This was the kick off to an entire weekend of fun and celebration. Rachel received so much help and support from her sister Rebekah, in addition to other members of their family that were so helpful throughout the weekend.

Friday night the family got together for a quick rehearsal for their traditional ceremony taking place on Saturday.  Guests were invited to a special welcome dinner in the Poco Diablo Ballroom where a Southwestern Buffet was prepared by the Chef and his team.  According to Jewish tradition, it is customary to begin the Friday night meal with a wine and challah blessing. Guests were also invited to view the creative timeline created by Rachel and Paul, celebrating their lives throughout the years. Each guest could add their best wishes, their own experiences and events within the lives of Rachel and Paul. The timeline contained a variety of photos of the couple and was 16 feet long!

Saturday morning Rachel and Paul planned a hike to Brins Mesa trail which has lovely views of Sedona’s lovely red rocks. It was great that there were so many activities for the wedding guests during their weekend in Sedona. Preparations were being made for the wedding throughout the day. Rachel looked brilliant when she appeared in her lovely wedding gown for wedding portraits which were taken by Sedona Bride Photography. Janice Midkiff was an outstanding wedding coordinator and helped with the flow of events throughout the evening.

The wedding ceremony was performed by Rabbi Shoshanah Conover. The traditional ceremony included two parts: Erusin (betrothal) and Nissuin (marriage). Paul and Rachel’s siblings walked out with the traditional Chuppah followed by Paul and his parents. Rachel was accompanied by her parents as she approached the Chuppah and Paul waiting patiently.  It was a lovely procession which was led by three adorable flower girls.

As I mentioned earlier, Rachel and Paul really know how to throw a party! But this was not the final event as everyone was welcomed to join them for a breakfast brunch on Sunday morning in the ballroom. Guests were able to wish Rachel and Paul a wonderful trip as they were getting ready to spend their honeymoon in sunny Spain. This was a weekend that will always be remembered by Rachel and Paul, their friends and family members, and Poco Diablo Resort. We were so happy and excited to spend so much time with them and our staff enjoyed helping them with their magical wedding weekend. Thank you Rachel and Paul. We will miss you until your next visit to Sedona.

Joy and James at the Gazebo Beneath Our Weeping Willow

Joy and James at the Gazebo Beneath Our Weeping Willow

Friday, June 17, 2011.  Local Sedona couple James and Joy held their wedding ceremony and reception at Poco Diablo Resort and we were so happy to be able to host their event. James and Joy actually booked their wedding venue about a year ago and have been busy with all of the wedding planning throughout the year. Joy works at the Mii Amo Spa at the Enchantment Resort and James works as a Chef at the Cliff Castle Casino. They are both familiar with the hotel industry and we are honored that they chose Poco Diablo Resort for their wedding. They loved the grounds and lovely views of the surrounding area as much as we do.

Although the day was warm and sunny, there was a cool breeze flowing throughout the afternoon, which made it very comfortable on the golf course. The ceremony was performed in front of the garden gazebo by Father Steve Apthorp. The Celebration and Blessings of their marriage included their Hands Ceremony, Lighting of the Unity Candle and Rose Ceremony. Joy was lovely as she approached James waiting patiently for her arrival. Joy’s dress was so beautiful and elegant. It was a magical wedding.

Following cocktails, guests proceeded to the Canopy Patio for the wedding dinner. Special wedding toasts were given in honor of Joy and James followed by their plated dinner. The menu included Seared Salmon with Caper Butter Sauce or Beef Flat Iron Steak Served with Mushroom Demi Glaze Sauce. James and Joy love Las Vegas and this was definitely the theme of the evening. Personalized chips were wedding favors along with creative centerpieces and table themes for resorts in Las Vegas. Even the meal selection was done by color code with playing cards.

Saturday, June 4, 2011.  Poco Diablo Resort was happy to host the intimate wedding ceremony and dinner for Kevin and Kelly on one of the most perfect days Sedona had to offer. After seeing some of their lovely photographs that we received from David Sunfellow, one of our favorite Sedona photographers, you will see why so many couples in love choose Sedona as their wedding destination.

We first met Kelly and Kevin at the Sedona Bridal Fair organized by the Sedona Wedding Professionals Association that was held at Poco Diablo Resort on February 26. Kelly liked the ceremony set up we had on display in front of our quaint golf course gazebo, and she thought that Poco would be a lovely location to host her upcoming wedding. We were happy to offer Kevin and Kelly the date of June 4 and you could not have asked for a more lovely day.

The roses were bright and shinny around the gazebo and the lovely floral bouquet that Kelly had chosen was a perfect match. David Sunfellow took amazing photographs of the lovely couple along with a variety of fun photos of their family. The spectacular red rocks were bright and the perfect backdrop for their wedding portraits. Following their wedding ceremony, Kevin and Kelly joined their wedding guests for a delicious dinner on the Canopy Patio where they enjoyed a duo plate offering Medallions of Beef with a Burgundy Blue Butter Sauce paired with Grilled Chicken with a Tarragon Cream Sauce accompanied by Wild Rice Medley and Seasonal Vegetables. Following dinner, guests enjoyed the traditional wedding cake along with special sweets made for the occasion.

Kassie and Steven Baniewicz with their lovely Flower Girl

Kassie and Steven Baniewicz with their lovely Flower Girl

Sunday, May 29, 2011.  Poco Diablo Resort was thrilled and honored to host the wedding ceremony and reception of Kassandra and Steven this past Sunday. We have become great friends with this lovely bridal couple and we were so happy to be part of their wonderful celebration. Throughout the months of planning their wedding, Kassie and Steven found themselves up in Sedona quite often. We were happy to see them a number of times, including their visit to the Sedona Bridal Fair that took place at our resort. Before we knew it, their wedding day was here!

Rev. Andrew Murphy with Heart of Sedona Weddings performed a traditional wedding ceremony with so many personal touches – the ceremony was enjoyed by all of the wedding attendees. Brian David performed his magical guitar at the wedding ceremony, and also during the wedding reception.  Sedona favorite, Janise Witt, captured the lovely wedding photographically.  Chris Epperson with 3E Media Works was the videographer. Kassie’s lovely floral arrangements were provided by Events by Showstoppers.

This is a wedding day Kassie and Steven will never forget. With wind gusts up to 45 mph, the golf course came alive with the motion of the trees and flowing ponds. Kassie’s wedding gown was spectacular! Her lovely long veil cascaded behind her as she walked down the aisle.

Following the intimate wedding ceremony, guests and the bridal party proceeded to the Canopy Patio for drinks and appetizers. Prior to dinner, the Yellow Bird Native Dancers performed traditional Native American hoop dances dressed in lovely and colorful attire. Kassie and Steven received a wedding blessing at the end of their performance and it was an evening that each and every one of their guests will always remember.

A delicious dinner buffet was served by the Poco Diablo banquet staff. New York Strip Sirloin was the highlight of the buffet, that was accompanied by our famous Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Wild Rice, Garden Salad and Selection of Fresh Seasonal Vegetables.  As the sun set over the hills, guests enjoyed a variety of popular music and the dancing went on throughout the night.  There were fun games for the children and the traditional Champagne Toast along with their wedding cake that was adorned with lovely flowers. Everyone had a great time celebrating the love and tenderness Kassie and Steven share. There was so much joy and happiness, it was passed on to all of us here at Poco Diablo Resort. We are so very happy to be able to be a part of their very special event and we feel very assured that we will see Kassie and Steven at Poco Diablo Resort quite often in the future.
