Saturday, May 19, 2012. A few months ago, we met the kind parents of Gaurav, who lives in Michigan. They were looking for a wedding venue in Sedona and visited us for a property tour. We enjoyed the time we spent with them and they felt that Poco Diablo Resort would be the perfect wedding venue for their son and daughter-in-law. During the Sedona Bridal Fair in February, Ashley and Gaurav traveled to Sedona to see our lovely property and they were looking for a specific May date. We really wanted to accommodate them and we were happy that we could host their wedding here at Poco. They wanted to have the ceremony on the golf course and hold the wedding reception in the Poco Diablo Ballroom. We were able to adjust some of our other events taking place on the same day and luckily, we were able to host their wedding here at Poco Diablo Resort.
It was a lovely Sedona day on Saturday and the golf course looked amazing. The traditional ceremony was held with beautiful red rock views while the flowing ponds and trees comforted the wedding guests. Our newly hatched ducklings were in the nearby stream and birds were singing throughout the ceremony. The groom arrived with much fan fair and celebration. Flowers were prevent throughout the ceremony. The canopy or mandap was placed on the golf course and decorated with colorful material and floral designs. Ashley looked lovely in her red sari as she approached Gaurav, who wore traditional wedding attire. Ashley wore decorative henna, created for the special occasion. The ceremony was performed by Pandit Vajpayee in front of their family and friends. It was such a lovely ceremony.
The entire Poco Diablo staff enjoyed the family and friends of the bridal couple. Our Executive Chef Felipe Felix was excited to prepare the wedding dinner with an Indian flair and our banquet staff made sure the ballroom was set up for comfort and fun. The delicious dinner buffet included Naan Bread, Basmati Rice, Grilled Chicken Breast with Lemon Herb Sauce, Muttar Peneer, Fresh Garden Salad, Seasonal Vegetables, Potato Samosas with Mango Chutney and an Assorted Fresh Fruit and Cheese Display. Much of the traditional dancing and champagne toasts took place just before dinner. Music and dancing went on throughout the evening.
We are anxious to see the professional photograhs taken by the Fenglong Photography team. They traveled from Atlanta for this special event and also covered the Mehndi Party the night before the wedding.
One of the highlights of the evening was the spectacular wedding cake created by Donna Joy, Sedona Sweet Arts. The handmade sugar flowers were remarkable and when the cake arrived in the ballroom, our staff circled the cake table in awe of the unbelievable sugar floral decor. This was truly a spectacular wedding cake!
Guests danced throughout the evening and celebrated the wonderful wedding of Ashley and Gaurav. We have enjoyed working with the bridal couple and their parents and were truly honored to host their beautiful wedding. Thank you and many happy years to you both. Come back and visit us when you return to Arizona.

Poco Diablo Resort, Sedona Arizona. The perfect venue for your dream wedding. What is more adorable than having children take part in your wedding party. It is exciting for them and enjoyable for all your guests and others in the wedding party. Some wedding traditions that grew over the years:
A Flower Girl is a participant in a Wedding Procession. Like Ring Bearers and Page boys, flower girls are usually members of the Bride’s or Bridegroom’s extended family, but may also be friends.
Her male equivalent is the ring bearer or page boy. Often the ring bearer and the flower girl are dressed to look like a couple, and they may be dressed in miniature versions of the bride’s and bridegroom’s clothes
Typically, the flower girl walks in front of the bride during an entrance processional. She may spread flower petals on the aisle before the bride or carry a basket of flowers. We have seem many variations of this here at Poco Diablo Resort.
Historically, the clothing is provided by the families of the bride and groom, but most modern couples expect the parents of the flower girl to pay for her clothing and other expenses related to her participation.
The Ring Bearer is a special page who carries the wedding rings for the bridal party. This is almost always symbolic, with the ring bearer carrying a large white satin pillow on which imitation rings are sewn, while the real wedding bands are kept in the safekeeping of the Best Man.
The ring bearer as a separate role is a relatively modern innovation. In today’s common wedding ceremony, the best man carries the rings.
Ring bearers are often nephews, sons or young brothers and are generally in the same age range as flower girls, which is to say that they are no younger than about four nor older than 12. If the couple have had children prior to marriage, their own children may serve as ring bearer or flower girl.
Many wedding couples start their own traditions as many things have changed throughout the years. Various types of weddings are taking place in modern times.
Not to be confused with an elopement, a destination wedding is one in which a wedding is hosted, often in a vacation-like setting, at a location to which most of the invited guests must travel and often stay for several days. This could be a wedding set in the Red Rocks of Sedona or a simple ceremony on the golf course followed by the wedding reception. During the recession of 2009, destination weddings continued to see growth compared to traditional weddings and who can blame the growth in destination weddings when people discover the beauty of Sedona, Arizona.
Here at Poco Diablo Resort, we also see a number of weekend weddings, which is a wedding in which bridal couples and their guests celebrate over the course of an entire weekend. Special activities, such as hiking, jeep tours, spa treatments and golf tournaments may be scheduled into the wedding itinerary. Poco Diablo Resort can offer a block of guest rooms for wedding guests, convenient for everyone since guests stay in the same facility as the wedding reception. Many times couples often host a Sunday brunch at Poco for the weekend’s finale or a rehearsal dinner prior to the wedding.
Personalizing your wedding party with your children, nieces, nephews and siblings make a deep impression on the children taking part in the wedding. The photographs are adorable and enjoyed by everyone.

The lovely floral wedding arrangements were provided by Mountain High Flowers. The ceremony was personalized by their children, taking part in the wedding party.
Following the ceremony, Robert and Stefanie took lovely wedding portraits while guests proceeded to the Rose Terrace for cocktails and appetizers. A delicious ceviche was served with cocktails along with our signature fruit and cheese tray. Guests enjoyed music played by DJ’s The Pros throughout the evening.

We can hardly believe that it is already one year since Audra and Kadecia allowed us to host their special commitment ceremony here at Poco Diablo Resort. On April 30, 2011 Audra and Kadecia spoke their sacred vows in a ceremony performed by Shanandoah Sterling in front of the golf course gazebo. It was a loving and heartfelt wedding shared by all of their friends and family and we were honored to be a part of it.
Their reception was held on the Canopy Patio where the color purple was prevalent. The delicious cake was made by Donna Joy, Sedona Sweet Arts. It was such a fun evening and everyone had a great time. We thoroughly enjoyed helping Audra and Kadecia with their special day.
A special “thank you” to Kadecia and Audra for sharing their photographs with us, and have a wonderful anniversary. Next year you may consider a visit to Poco Diablo Resort to celebrate!
