Sedona Sweet Arts

Here at Poco Diablo Resort we have seen hundreds of wedding cakes throughout the past 30 years as one of the most popular wedding venues in Sedona. As you can imagine, we have tasted many of these wedding cakes and we feel confident in our recommendation of the perfect wedding cake for your event.

Wedding cakes have evolved over the past forty years, from the traditional pillared wedding cake to the modern, whimsical cakes that are more challenging to create. Bridal couples are becoming more involved in the cake design matching style and color prevalent throughout their wedding. You will also find a larger selection of cake flavors and fillings adding variety to the celebration.

An important factor when selecting a wedding cake is not only the cost, but the artistic factor. Using a pastry artist that makes their own sugar flowers and designs is the best way to go. Why would you want to have flowers processed in China by machine decorating your distinctive wedding cake? There is nothing special about that. To protect your guests who will be consuming the cake, you must purchase a cake from a licensed, health inspected bakery. This lifts the liability from the bride and groom in the case of someone getting sick from the wedding cake.

Sedona may be a small town but we have very talented wedding vendors, including the perfect cake artist available to create the perfect wedding cake for your event. Sedona Sweet Arts has years of experience and is highly recommended by Poco Diablo Resort. Owner and artist, Donna Joy started a medical manufacturing company in Lucerne, Switzerland. While living abroad, Donna Joy loved studying the European methods the culinary pastry arts. Over the years, she has shaped her artistic talents to become a master baker and sugar artist specializing in the art of Pastillage.

Donna is also a Chocolatier able to make amazing truffles and confectionaries. Her work is well known within the wedding industry, and, as a result, Donna Joy has won the Bride’s Choice Award from the Wedding Wire for the past three years.  She was also awarded the best Wedding Cake in the state of Arizona by People Magazine in 2007 along with other numerous local awards. Donna Joy’s work has been seen in national, state, and local publications. How can you beat experience like this?

Saturday, September 15, 2012. The perfect day for a Sedona wedding and an exciting time for all of us at Poco Diablo Resort. We were thrilled to host the wedding ceremony and reception of Monica and Matt here at Poco. Throughout the months leading up to their wedding, we became good friends with the bridal couple and some of their family members, and before we knew it…. their wedding day was here.

Monica worked diligently on all the wedding plans and Matt was a great help in the planning process. There were many personal touches added to their wedding and we will share some of their creative efforts with you. The most amazing part of their wedding was the surprise that both of their fathers had become ordained so that they could perform the wedding ceremony. Their mothers were not aware of this and they were astonished when both gentlemen stepped up in front of their guests to perform the intimate ceremony. As you an imagine, this was a very personal and cherished wedding ceremony.

The wedding photographer was Anna LaBenz and the wedding ceremony was videotaped by Schelli Rothi with Taltos Productions. The bridal flowers were actually arranged and made by the bride herself! This was another personal touch that added so much care and attention to the event.

August 25, 2012. Poco Diablo Resort hosted the amazing and fun wedding of Diane and Scottie at our resort. Our staff was truly excited and happy to hold this special wedding at Poco. We have gotten to know Diane and Scottie over the past few months and have enjoyed helping them with their wedding plans. Diane knew exactly how she wanted her wedding to be – full of family, fun and friends. It turned out to be just as she and Scottie planned and everyone enjoyed both the wedding ceremony and reception that followed.

The wedding was held on the golf course facing Sedona’s red rocks. Flowers adorned the ceremony site, prepared by Mountain High Flowers in Sedona. Their intimate ceremony performed by Judge John Kelliher and Decon Robert Sadorf contained a special sand ceremony and many readings by family and friends. Diane looked lovely in her wedding gown along with her bridal party.

Scottie looked on with love as Diane walked down the aisle accompanied by music played by Kevin and Michelle Hoover, Pure Entertainment DJ. Diane’s lovely bouquet complimented her beautiful dress. Nearby, a Poco duck was having a fresh shower, enjoying the perfect Sedona day.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a delicious wedding brunch in the Poco Diablo Ballroom. Each table of guests danced their way to the buffet, performing a chosen song by the bride and groom. Each table did their own performance, in their own style, and it was great! A variety of heartfelt toasts were made to Diane and Scottie followed by fun and dancing. Tables looked lovely with centerpieces made by Mountain High Flowers. Kevin and Michelle with Pure Entertainment DJ played a variety of music throughout the event.
